Bye, Bye, Bye To May

music monday

This month's music has been a bit of a throwback. I heard  "Boom" by X Ambassadors and then Spotify started playing me all of their other songs, songs that I've listened to previously (many, many times and LOVED) but hadn't listened to recently. So I was jamming out to their lovely voices for a lot of the month.

talk to me tuesday

So, I've mentioned before that I'm all about that podcast life these days. My most recent binge listen? The Good Place: The Podcast. It's hosted my Marc Evan Jackson (the actor who plays Shawn) and it is So. Freaking. Good.

I absolutely love this show and it's fascinating getting a behind the scenes look. The cast and writers of the show are frequent guests and it's really cool to hear from them too.

My biggest takeaways:

1.) I didn't know I could love Kristen Bell more than I already did, and somehow she just got even better.

2.) Ted Danson is America's Sweetheart.

3.) I have a girl crush on Jameela Jamil.

whatcha’ reading wednesday

I READ A BOOK THIS MONTH!! Okay, I promised I'd read three but I finished one and started two so I'm considering this as a win with my book slump.

The one I did finish is technically a play, but I'm counting it anyways. This is not a recent play either as it came out almost three years ago. But here's the thing, I'm usually SUPER disappointed with sequels and this was something that I desperately didn't want to be disappointed about as it has to do with my all time favorite Harry Potter.

I bought Harry Potter and the Cursed Child when it was released and it's been sitting on my shelf collecting dust since. But after listening to my FAVORITE podcast Binge Mode, I decided to bite the bullet and finally read it.

My take away? It was pretty different from the books (especially the play format) but I was not disappointed. It was really nice to dive back into this world that I loved so much, even if there were some jarring moments.

The other two books that I've started reading? One is a cook book: Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat. You might've scrolled past the four part series on Netflix, but I highly recommend the watch. While the book has some recipes in it (the buttermilk marinated chicken is AMAZING) the first part of it is the theory on why all of these elements are important in your cooking. It's super informative and a very fun read.

The second book I've started reading (and am already sucked into the world) is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I'm only about 20 pages in, but this is a journey I'm excited about.

It's summer time and that has me thinking about a certain summer story, Unforgettable. I always knew Shep and Hannah would have a second chance romance that took place right in the heat of things, and I do mean the heat.

“What am I doing?” Hannah whispered.

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t know that I was thinking coming down here. I can’t do this.” And though she was partly talking about the house, she was mainly talking about him.

Shep's eyebrows lowered and his mouth turned down. “Did you seriously just say you couldn’t do something?”

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

“Where’s the woman from this morning? The one who was ready to conquer everything?”

“Reality hit her in the face.” Logic. Her go to. Where the hell had it been all morning?

“Well, I think she needs to kick reality right back in the balls.”

A somewhat hysterical laugh burst forth from her lips. “Is that right?”

“Yeah.” He nodded. “You have to take it one day at a time.”

“But I don’t operate like this. I always know the plan. Know the endgame. Where I’m going. But not with any of this. This is just so…so impulsive. I don’t do that.” Not since you. Not since everything came crashing down.

“Coming down here was a bit impulsive, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah, but that had more to do with Gigi’s plans than mine. I don’t know what I was thinking, doing this. Coming here.”

“Maybe it had to do with both of you, and maybe you should stop overthinking for a little bit.” He tapped her temple gently before he ran his fingers slowly down the side of her face, tracing her jaw. “Go with your gut.” And then his hand was on her belly. His thumb circled over the fabric of her shirt, pulling it up just slightly as his fingers dipped, touching her skin.

And that was when the sheep turned into the wolf. The predatory gleam in his eyes wasn’t a flare. It was a freaking inferno.

Her breath caught, her heart pounding in her throat. “Are we still talking about the inn?”

He shook his head, taking a step forward and completely invading her space. “I was never talking about the inn.”

Shep’s hand was on Hannah’s belly and it moved, slipping around her side and to her back, gliding across her skin the entire journey. She shivered, and his grip on her side tightened, pulling her closer to him. She was completely flush against his body, and it was in this moment that she realized her good hand was at his side, too, twisting in the fabric of his shirt.

“Then…then what were you talking about?”

He leaned down, just barely skimming his mouth over hers, and damn if her knees didn’t buckle just a little bit. Luckily for her, he took a step forward, pressing her back against the wall.

“I’ve missed you,” he whispered, his lips moving against hers. “So damn much.”

She wasn’t sure what words she would’ve liked to use as a response, because the ability to speak was positively lost to her when he ran his tongue across her bottom lip. He didn’t have to do much coaxing at all to get her to open up.

None. He had to do absolutely zero coaxing.

Her mouth parted on instinct, needing to taste him more than she needed to breathe. And he complied.

Holy helldid he comply. His tongue found hers, stroking and twisting. It was better than she remembered.

His firm lips, the abrasive rasp of his scruff on her cheeks and chin, his hands on her body, his rough fingers working into her skin and holding her so close.

It was then that she noticed her hand was in his hair.

How in the world did that get there?

follow friday

So on June 12th I will be doing an author take over on Ally Always Reads Instagram. It's also her birthday so we obviously need to celebrate in style. I hope you can join me, especially as there will be some book giveaways. And who doesn't love free books?

I'd seen the I WEIGH movement a couple of months ago on instagram and followed it, but I didn't really start to pay attention to it until recently. It's an account that was created by my new girl crush Jameela Jamil (Tahani on The Good Place). And basically it's just a really body positive place on social media.

silverscreen saturday

I have nothing to report on this month for movies that I've seen, but I can tell you the movies I'm most excited about in June.

1.) Toy Story 4 - I was 9 years old when the first movie came out, and at 32 I might be even more excited to see this one. Sometimes we just don't grow old.

2.) Men In Black: International - Again, just more nostalgia. Not only can you get me to see (almost) any movie that involves Chris Hemsworth, but I have a total girl crush on Tessa Thompson.

3.) Dark Phoenix - Sophie Turner is a BAMF. That is all.

small screen sunday

Now that Game of Thrones is done, I need new TV shows to get overly emotionally invested in, good thing I already have some lined up.

1.) Big Little Lies - I was hooked the first season and am sooooooooo happy that they made another season of this. Reese Witherspoon is my favorite southern bell, Nicole Kidman is a class act, Zoe Kravitz is amazing, Laura Dern is amazing, Shailene Woodley is amazing, and, um, we get Meryl this season. I can't wait.

2.) The Handmaid'e Tale - So I watched the first season live, but somehow never made time to sit down and watch season 2 (my very HUGE mistake). I'm on episode 5 now and though I won't be ready for the premiere on Wednesday, I should be caught up soon.

3.) Brooklyn Nine-Nine - While listening to The Good Place: The Podcast I got to hear all about other Michael Schur shows, and as I enjoy having something light and fun for those days that you just really need a laugh, I chose to start watching this. I don't regret my life choices.

As always, I'd love to hear from you on Social Media. So stop by and let me know what you're up to or just say hello!
