I'm Your Summer Girl

Written while rewatching the third season of The Good Place and getting ready for the fourth and final season.

P.S. I’m not ready for this to be the end of the Soul Squad

music monday

Most played song this month? “Summer Girl” by HAIM. Also, listening to that song led me down the rabbit hole of listening to all of their other music, which I’ve loved like whoa but maybe forgot just how much until I started listening again.

I also spent a little time with Muse this month. It totally gave me flashbacks to college when my Twi-hard obsession reached peak levels and I listened to a lot of Muse. Like a lot.

And lastly, as I’ve been a long time Taylor Swift fan, Lover has been playing pretty regularly on my speakers since the release.

tostada tuesday

Something that I will never say no to? Tacos. They are my typical cuisine of choice.

So last month I got a box from HelloFresh and I'd picked a meal of tostadas. To my knowledge I've never had tostadas before, but let's just say I've made them many times since. Basically what makes a tostada a tostada is the tortilla shell prep. I've only used flour tortillas or gluten free. I've yet to try corn.

They are SO easy and I'm going to share with you how to make them.

1.) Adjust rack to top position and preheat oven to 450 degrees.

2.) Drizzle olive oil on the tortillas and brush or rub to coat all over. Repeat for the other side as well.

3.) Gently prick each tortilla in a few places with a fork.

4.) Bake on top rack, flipping halfway through. Each side takes about 4-5 minutes. The tortillas will be golden brown when ready.

5.) Top with whatever goodies you want. This one has sour cream and guac (which doesn't cost extra when you make it yourself) as the base layer, lettuce, then shredded chicken that I made in the crockpot, kidney beans, tomatoes, and topped with cotija cheese.

6.) Enjoy the delicious crunch with every bite. I actually find these to be a bit more manageable than hard shell tacos.

whatcha’ reading wednesday

I have a request.

I know Christmas is a few months out, but I'm already working on some holiday promo for An Unexpected Christmas...

When it comes to promo, the more reviews the better. So if you have a quick second, and you've read it, would you be so kind to leave a review on Amazon? I'd be forever grateful! And so would Jace and Adele.

fan friday

I believe I've mentioned that my biggest guilty pleasure is the Bachelor/ette. I started watching a couple of years ago because a good friend of mine didn't have anyone to watch with. So a couple of us started a Monday night watch party.

I've been hooked ever since.

So here's the deal, Hannah Brown has become my favorite Bachelorette...of ever. She might or might not be inspiring a future book character...or she definitely is. Also, I'm really excited that she's going to be on this season of Dancing with the Stars.

Also, also she did this video for Cosmopolitan that made me love her even more.

silverscreen saturday

Things I did watch:

Robin Hood (the 2018 version): So, I very much enjoyed this movie, and not just because every time I see anything with Taron Egerton I fall more and more in love with him. I'm also a sucker for white knight stuff and I always enjoy a little action. So this movie was a win for me, even if it wasn't traditional.

Aquaman- I feel like I could just say Jason Momoa and be done here, but there was also a BAMF Nicole Kidman...but she's always a BAMF in my book. I've made no secret about my love for superhero movies. Just another thing that I'm a sucker for.

Things I want to watch:

Hustlers - Have you SEEN this cast? Jennifer Lopez (you would've had me here alone), Lizzo (DID YOU SEE HER VMA PERFORMANCE? OR HAVE YOU LISTENED TO ANY OF HER SONGS?????), Julia Stiles (I've had a girl crush on her since I was in middle school and saw her in 10 Things I Hate About You), Madeline Brewer (I've been obsessed with her lately, mainly because of The Handmaid's Tale...more on that later), Constance Wu (I know there is some drama with her, but she's a damn good actress), and Cardi B (she always makes things interesting).

small screen sunday

This section is going to be things that made me cry this month:

1.) Brooklyn 99 - There was a certain wedding in the fifth season and pretty much the second they started saying their vows I started crying. Have I told you guys how much I love this show?

2.) The Handmaid's Tale - I pretty much cried all season, but the finale killed me. KILLED ME. The show is brilliant, the acting is amazing, the cinematography is beautiful, and it's an emotional rollercoaster that I already miss having in my life. Hey, we all have our thrills...even if they can sometimes be masochistic.

3.) Diagnosis - It's a show on Netflix about people who can't figure out what's wrong with them medically and a brilliant doctor who tries to help them. The doctor is working with The New York Timesto crowdsource answers. Social Media can be a bit of cesspool, but this documentary shows that there are some pretty big positives to what can happen when people work together...and care about the stranger on the other side of the screen. I've cried during pretty much every episode.

4.) Euphoria - Okay, this show is intense. And I mean INTENSE. But the acting is phenomenal and every time Zendaya is on screen she steals the scene. She also made me cry. A LOT. Season one is wrapped up, but I can't wait for season 2.

As always, I'd love to hear from you on Social Media. So stop by and let me know what you're up to or just say hello!
